Mike Shaughnessy
May 19, 1947 – October 2, 2023

The world lost a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather when James Michael Shaughnessy passed into the eternal kingdom of heaven on Oct 2, 2023. Mike was a resident of South Kingstown, RI and East Orleans, MA.

He was born in Fall River, MA, the son of William and Lucy St Laurent Shaughnessy. He held degrees from UMASS Amherst and URI. He spent his career working at the University of Rhode Island, retiring in 2011 as Director of Academic Computing.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara and three loving children Meghan, Patrick (Katharyn) and Kevin (Jordan), along with grandchildren Amelia, Liam, Connor, Kathleen and Morgan Shaughnessy. His grandchildren and his role as their Papa held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his sisters in law Linda Cataldi and Cynthia (Mark) Nusbaum and extended dear family and friends.

Mike cherished his family. He provided a guiding light to us all in our endeavors, took great pride in our accomplishments, and was always sought after for advice. He had a good sense of humor and was a lifelong teacher and learner.

He was an avid sports fan, played bridge regularly, gardened, and caned chairs, a hobby he took up in retirement. He also took great pride in the privet hedge he meticulously maintained at the house in East Orleans.

Visiting hours will be held on October 10, 2023 from 3 to 5 pm, in Avery-Storti funeral home at 88 Columbia St , Wakefield, RI. A mass of Christian burial will be held on October 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd, Kingston. Burial will be Private.
